How these photography business names are built
This generator draws from 181 hand-picked words in 8 lists and uses 12 naming patterns, plus 5 more that wrap around a keyword you type. The patterns can combine into up to 19,928 different names before filters. Every name in the list shows the pattern behind it, so you can see why it reads the way it does.

Naming guide for your photography business
A photographer's name is a promise about style before a single image is seen. Light and frame words promise craft. A surname plus the word photography promises a person, which is what most wedding and family clients are actually hiring. Neither is wrong, but pick on purpose.
Use your own name if you want referrals to find you by name, and plan to stay in the business for years. A brand name makes it easier to grow into a studio with associates or to sell the business later. Many photographers use both: a studio name for the brand and their own name on the work.
Check how the name looks as a watermark and as a social handle. Long names get cropped in the corner of an image, and handles with extra words are hard to share. The longest-name filter helps, and so does trying names in capitals, because watermarks are usually small and tidy.
Before you commit to a name
- Search your local business register or company registry for the same name, and for names that look or sound almost the same.
- Search the web, maps and the social networks you plan to use for businesses that already trade under it, especially in your own town and trade.
- Look the name up yourself in the trademark register of your country. This site does not check trademarks and makes no claim that a name is free to use.
- Check that a domain name and the social handles you want are available, or that you can live with a close variant.
- Say it aloud, spell it to a friend over the phone and read it small on a sticker or a van door.
Questions
Should I use my own name for a photography business?
It makes you easy to find and recommend, and clients often search by the photographer's name. A brand name is easier to grow or sell. Use the surname-style patterns here to compare both.
Do I need the word photography in the name?
It helps strangers and search engines place you, particularly with a name that could be anything. A studio or pictures word does a similar job and sounds less literal.
Can I add my location or genre?
Type the word in the keyword box and the generator builds names around it. Genre words such as wedding, newborn and headshot are also built into some patterns.
How do I make sure nobody else is using the name?
Search for it near you, in your business register and on the social networks, and read your country's trademark register yourself. This site only generates ideas.
